So this is a weird thing that DC came up with for the Watchmen 30th Anniversary. It's a box set collection of hardcover single comics. Sort of marketed for the same crowd that's buying the hardcover editions of The Dark Knight III The Master Race, it came out in November and it retails for $125.

From a reading standpoint, hardcover singles actually make sense for Watchmen above all other comics series. Watchmen was never intended to be consumed as a graphic novel. Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons designed each issue to be parsed individually, and when you read the series that way, it takes on a whole different and wonderful layer of design and story craft that is lost in the graphic novel format.

Magic the Gathering's newest expansion by WOTC.

Heroic Realms, the awesome game store in Evergreen is having a Kaladesh tournament tonight. Standard decks only, the tournament starts at 2pm and costs $5 to enter. They're giving away Kaladesh promo booster packs as prizes, so come one, come all and have a fun evening for far less than a movie.

SCIENCE!

Rainer Weiss

Ronald Drever

Kip Thorne
So, here's a special thank you to Kip Thorne, Ronald Drever, and Rainer Weiss, the winners of this year's Breakthrough Prize for fundamental physics. The trio won this year for their work in detecting gravitational waves. Once again proving that Einstein was right. Congratulations guys! Even if you did disprove my time machine out of existence... I'm looking at you Thorne.

Just in case you thought I was feeling all political this morning..

Here's a Doughnut for you all...

H.L Mencken strikes again!

"On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron." -H. L. Mencken-

That's twice now Mencken. Let's at least try to stay out of the prophecy business okay?

Hasbro Toys Micronauts SDCC Exclusive

So, this is what I missed out on at San Diego Comic Con this year. Hasbro Toys now has the license to the Micronauts toy line so i can only hope this is the start of many more figures and vehicles.
Here's three from my favorite Canadian band that's not, you know Celine Dion or Bryan Adams.

Like A Phoenix From The Ashes

Hi Kalispell,

So in August the excellent and intrepid Christi finally shuttered the doors on her amazingly brave enterprise, Kalispell Comics. It was a great store, completely family friendly and a fun place to come in, hang out and buy comics and toys. It will be sorely missed by anyone who was ever one of her customers, no matter how often you shopped there it made a professional impression.

Not to be completely undone Christi kept her online store open through the social magic of Facebook until the beginning of November, scheduling regular weekly meetings at City Brew South for all of her regulars.

She's now ended her comics retailing odyssey, but not to fear!

Kalispell now has a shiny new comic book store. Comics Arcade is now open for business in downtown Kalispell. Stop in, check out the store, and let me know what you think. Hopefully new proprietor Randy will carry on for a long time to come.
Meet The New Comic Book Store!

Relaunches, Reboots, and Rebirths

David Harper over at the late lamented SKTCHD blog has a great article about the comics industry's current obsession with "recency", and does an excellent job of dissecting fandom's love/hate relationship with the whole thing.

It's nice to see someone finally give voice to why I no longer follow Legion of Superheroes. It's been rebooted and relaunched so many times that it long ago became unreadable. To my credit I actually stuck with it through the "threeboot" years where the title was split between Legion of Superheroes and Legionnaires, but the team got lost during the run-up to The New 52 and then scrambled with a metaphorical Kitchen-Aid mixer afterwards. Not the smartest trajectory for a team with such a rich history and a massive cast of characters. Like most annoying things in comics it's probably John Byrne's fault for trying to retcon Superboy out of existence during his Superman reboot.
And this only covers through the Kieth Griffen Years.

Good Morning Kalispell, Montana!!

It's a balmy 33 degrees on the Fahrenheit Scale and it looks like there's a fair chance you're going to get some snow flurries today. So, all you Pokemon Go players dress warmly and drive safely. The 'mons' are out there but remember you'll never catch 'em all if you're not playing with your own safety in mind.
